Following the conclusion of their 40th Anniversary World Tour, Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy has confirmed that the band will return to the studio this fall. The upcoming sessions will result in the successor to their 2025 album, Parasomnia. The band completed 159 shows across 45 countries before wrapping up the tour on May 12th, 2026.
Portnoy indicated that the band will take a brief hiatus during the summer of 2026 before reconvening to begin work on the new material. This marks the second recording cycle since Portnoy’s return to the lineup, signaling a period of renewed productivity for the progressive metal stalwarts.
