Amon Amarth has officially announced their 13th studio album, titled The Allfather Awakens, which is scheduled for global release on October 2 through Metal Blade Records. To mark the announcement, the Swedish viking metal veterans have premiered a high-tempo new single and cinematic music video for the track „Gjallarhorn.”
The new single „Gjallarhorn” draws directly from Norse mythology, telling the story of the god Oden’s journey to the Well of Wisdom where he sacrificed his eye for cosmic insight. Unlike the band’s previous acoustic single „Upphaf,” this new track returns to the band’s signature heavy sound, characterized by driving riffs and monumental choruses designed for live environments.
For this 10-song masterwork, the band adopted a new creative process by writing material while on tour rather than waiting for a break in their schedule. Recorded across two sessions at producer Jacob Hansen’s studio in Denmark, the band treated each song as an individual single, completing the tracking for one before moving to the next to ensure maximum quality.
