Neurotic Machinery is a band with a seventeen-year history that has only now decided to enter my musical consciousness. And yet they have as many as six albums to their name! How could I have missed them until now? But now, after listening to their latest work, „A Loathsome Aberration”, I am sure that I will never forget about them.
The album’s artwork alone promised something great. The greenish cover adorned with a classic death metal style by Paolo Girardi piqued my interest. And when I added the information about the logo created by the Lord of the Logos himself, Christopher Szpajdel, I knew that something truly exceptional awaited me.
Finally, when I started listening to „A Loathsome Aberration”, I was completely taken by surprise. Neurotic Machinery, according to information, originally leaned towards metalcore, and now they present a blend of death metal, deathcore, and progressive metal, which could easily be called extreme. Brutal yet not devoid of modern elements, this album is like a waterfall strike that takes the listener on an amazing journey.
What sets Neurotic Machinery apart from other bands in this genre is their extraordinary creativity and willingness to experiment. Adding a saxophone or female vocals to the compositions gives the whole a new, original character. Although sometimes I felt that the saxophone blended in a bit too much with the rest of the sounds, I appreciate the musicians’ courage and inventiveness.
It is impossible not to mention the vocals, which are truly impressive. Diverse, full of emotions and energy, they give the whole a tremendous dynamism.
Although „A Loathsome Aberration” is not a perfect album and some elements could be improved upon, I am definitely positively surprised by the level of Neurotic Machinery. They have immense experience, can evoke the desired emotions, and are not afraid to experiment.
In conclusion, I recommend „A Loathsome Aberration” to all fans of extreme metal who appreciate innovation, energy, and professionalism. Neurotic Machinery proves that after seventeen years of existence, they can still surprise and delight their listeners. I hope that now, after this review, more people will discover this amazing band and enjoy their music just like I do.
