The fifth studio album by the French band Hypno5e, titled „Sheol,” is yet another proof of the artists’ constant development and experimentation. Released by the Berlin-based label Pelagic Records, the album consists of nine compositions that showcase the various facets of the group.

Right from the first listen, it’s clear that Hypno5e can surprise their listeners. They effortlessly navigate between heavy, metal sounds and delicate, acoustic moments. On one hand, there are brutal, broken rhythms, and on the other, clean singing and subtle arrangements. This diversity adds depth and dimension to the album, although at times there is a lack of balance between these two aspects.

The biggest strength of „Sheol” is undoubtedly the technical skills of the musicians. The guitar parts are complex and precise, the drums pulsating, and the vocals full of emotion. The dynamics of the songs, especially those with unexpected twists and lush arrangements, set this album apart from other progressive releases. An example of this might be the epic „Bone Dust,” which in one track can change moods and atmosphere.

However, despite all its merits, „Sheol” may not be for everyone. Some listeners may feel lost in the maze of style and sound diversity, and the longer parts of clean singing may be too monotonous for some. Nevertheless, for fans of Hypno5e who appreciate originality and experimentation, this album is a true masterpiece.

In conclusion, Hypno5e once again prove their place in the world of progressive metal. „Sheol” is an album that requires patience and an open mind to new sounds, but at the same time rewards the listener with wonderful compositions and amazing virtuosic performances. For those seeking something new and unheard of, „Sheol” may turn out to be a real discovery. However, for those looking for traditional metal sound, this album may be too experimental and hard to digest. Therefore, I recommend giving Hypno5e a chance and discovering their world of music for yourself. After all, sometimes the greatest treasures are found in niche productions, and „Sheol” certainly belongs to them.
