Symphonic black metal titans Dimmu Borgir have announced their long-awaited studio album, Grand Serpent Rising, which is set for release on May 22, 2026, via Nuclear Blast Records. Guitarist Silenoz recently discussed the making of the album, revealing that while some songs originated in 2018 and 2019, they have been significantly re-edited and re-written to maintain a fresh dynamic. The recording took place at a studio in Gothenburg with producer Fredrik Nordström, who previously worked on the band’s iconic releases Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia and Death Cult Armageddon.
The band has unveiled the second single from the upcoming record, titled „Ascent.” The track is described as an aggressive and vicious statement of intent, merging symphonic grandeur with dark, commanding aggression. Silenoz noted that this album reflects a „back to basics” approach, with he and Shagrath contributing more individual writing, which has opened up new dynamics for the band.
