The album „Killing For Revenge” by Six Feet Under is another step in their musical journey, but unfortunately it is not a step towards improvement. Although the album may seem more aggressive and dynamic than its predecessor, there are still many shortcomings that make it difficult to recommend as a significant point in the history of death metal.

Let’s start with the vocals of the band’s leader, Chris Barnes. His growling, which was once a characteristic element of Six Feet Under’s music, now seems tired and lacking in the original fire. It lacks the energy and passion that were once so characteristic of his performance. This causes the entire album to lose intensity and the feeling of authenticity, which is a key element in death metal.

Another problem is Jack Owen’s guitar riffs, which, although more aggressive and thrashier than on previous albums, lack originality and creativity. They often seem derivative and devoid of flashes of brilliance. Despite the band’s efforts, they lack that „something” that would make the songs memorable and make the listener want to come back to them repeatedly.

Additionally, a lack of ideas and the monotony of the songs make the entire album lose value and become monotonous. Despite a few promising moments, such as „Mass Casualty Murdercide” or „Spoils of War”, most of the songs simply fail to take the listener on an exciting journey as promised by the legendary Six Feet Under.

Compared to the new, young bands that are now emerging from the underground death metal scene, Six Feet Under pale in comparison and sound bland and unremarkable. They fail to embrace modern sounds and experiments that bring freshness and new quality to the genre. This makes the entire album „Killing For Revenge” seem outdated and unnecessary in today’s music scene.

In conclusion, although Six Feet Under tried to redeem their past failures, they unfortunately failed to create an album that is worthy of attention and memory. „Killing For Revenge” is an album that must be listened to with caution and considered whether it is worth dedicating time to, when there are so many other, more exciting options in the music market. I hope that the band will find the strength and inspiration to return to their original sound and surprise their fans with something truly new and innovative.
