Polish black metal band Mgła is celebrating a decade since the release of their seminal album “Exercises in Futility”, a record that has left an indelible mark on their career and the genre. Known for its raw intensity and introspective depth, the album was crafted in near-total isolation, with the band handling every aspect of its production themselves.
In a surprising revelation, Mgła shared that “Exercises in Futility” was initially planned as a seven-track record. During the original recording sessions, drums and guitars were laid down for all seven songs, but the band ultimately trimmed one track to create a tighter, single-vinyl release. The excluded song, titled “World-without-us,” was shelved, with its raw materials archived—until now.
To commemorate the album’s 10th anniversary, Mgła revisited the unfinished track in August 2025, adding bass and vocal arrangements to complete it. The result is a haunting new piece that captures the essence of the original album while offering fans a fresh glimpse into the band’s creative vault. “World-without-us” is now available for streaming on platforms like Bandcamp and YouTube.
While a physical release isn’t currently in the works, Mgła hinted that it could materialize next year, once their upcoming projects are finalized. For now, fans can expect “World-without-us” to hit major streaming services like Spotify in just two weeks, adding another chapter to the enduring legacy of “Exercises in Futility”.
